OK. I'm jazzed up about this concept and hope you will be, too. My higher-ups just put me in charge of promoting a great concept in conjunction with our friends at Google. It's International Cleanup Weekend, happening October 13 and 14, 2007, and it's all about "power to the people."
It's a really simple concept, made fun and social by the Google Maps Tools. Here's how it works.
SImply choose an area close to home and close to your heart - whether it's a park, river, trail, favorite sidewalk....you name it. Map it out on the Google Maps International Cleanup Weekend site (it's really easy), then tell your friends where to show up and when.
Or, just grab a bag and do it yourself if you're more of a loner. Not a problem.
Don't have a favorite place? No problem there either. Check out the map and see if there's something already happening near you. New York City and San Francisco have lots of events. Come on, small town America- let's show those big cities how it's done!
This is a perfect illustration of my core belief - that many small acts of individuals (superheroes or not) can be rolled up into a powerful movement. Big thanks to Google for offering up the technology to make it happen.
Now THAT is a great way to spend a weekend!
