Well, I was able to get 65MPG round-trip to/from work today. It's about a 20-mile stretch with a bit of highway and suburban lights... not too shabby. I'm debating whether to get a sticker like this for the back of the car. I wonder how people determine which sticker to get?
- Do they use their best overall mileage for a tank?
- Do they use the best 'trip' they've ever achieved?
- Do they use their current 'overall' mileage?
I just pumped up the tires to 40psi (44 max pressure), and it seemed to be a LOT easier to get better mileage.... So, I wonder if it's a combination of higher PSI tire-pressure, just LEARNING how to drive the civic hybrid better, or maybe it's the engine starting to "break-in".
Not sure about the "break-in" period yet, because I've heard others say online that they start to get noticeably better mileage around 5000 miles. We're at about 3000 miles so far. I've also heard that the first oil-change really starts to show better MPG for the civics...
Either way, we're getting better MPG than I initially expected. I was expecting to get 42mpg overall, and we're getting 46mpg for the 'lifetime' so far. This latest tank is about 50mpg.... so it seems to be getting better and better.... then again, we're using the A/C "less" than before because it's getting "cooler" out, but still nowhere near "cool" weather.
Hi all,
Well, this is our new car. We're still on the first tank, so I'm not sure what the overall-MPG will be, but it will likely be around 42-44mpg... but I got 55 mpg on my commute from home to work this morning (15 mile distance)!
We were 'planning' to wait a while before getting one (since selling the Acura in June). But, due to a few things we decided to get one:
- We got the Civic Hybrid for invoice price (which is about $1500 less than the average price most people are paying, according to Edmunds.com
- We should get a $2000 tax-credit at the end of the year, since it's a hybrid with federal tax-credit
- There were sales going on for this 2007-model, when the 2008 models are coming soon (since they would be less likely to deal as much on 2008 models)
- The tax-credit is limited to the first 60,000 vehicles, then it drops by 50% each quarter until there is 0% tax-credit
- Plus, we decided to try to use it as our 'primary' around-town and short road-trip car (<5 hour distance) instead of the van (which will save gas money and emissions). But then we'll use the van for LONG road-trips, or if there are too many people we're taking to fit in 1 car.
